I am a Graduate Research Assistant at Patuxent Environmental and Aquatic Research Laboratory, Morgan State University, Maryland, United States. My current PhD work in Bioenvironmental Sciences focuses on the Human Dimensions of Sika deer management on Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore. I hold a B.Sc. Zoology (Bayero University Kano, Nigeria) and Masters in Biodiversity Conservation from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Before coming to the United States, I was based at Federal University Dutse (Nigeria), teaching wildlife ecology and biodiversity conservation courses. I was involved in national and regional conservation activities in, for example, the Nigerian Bird Atlas Project, and REDISSE Project, and I am a member of the Nigerian Coordination Group of Key Biodiversity Areas (NCG-KBAs). I also serve as Head of the Biodiversity Conservation and Education Unit in the Centre for Arid Zone Ecology, FUD. I was one of the co-founders and Secretary FUD Conservation Society.
I have several peer-reviewed publications and receive Letters of merits/recognition on biodiversity conservation activities from Federal University Dutse Management and others. Presently, I am the Secretary and Policy Advocacy Officer of the Nigerian Society for Conservation Biology and former pioneer Secretary General Northern Nigeria Regional Bird Atlas Team, 2018-2020. I am a Regional Representative member and Ambassador of the Nigerian Bird Atlas Project, and a member identification panel in the BirdPix and LepiMAP projects, Virtual Museum, Fitzpatrick Institute of African Ornithology, South Africa. I am a member Board of Directors for the West African Conservation Network (WACN).
My toolkit spans several fields in the natural sciences, including ornithology, citizen science, conservation education, butterflies, herpetology, protected areas, and wetlands. Recent experiences are preparing me in developing a social science toolkit on the human dimensions of wildlife management to enable me to answer key wildlife management questions. Reading, writing, wild travels, wildlife photography, and intellectual discussions are my hobbies.
